Google Unveils Android TV

(RTTNews) - Google Inc. (GOOG) Wednesday unveiled Android TV, a version of the search giant's Android software designed to play videos, games and other apps on televisions.

Android TV is a software that will be installed into television and other devices which will enable users to view movies, listen to music, play games and other applications on their television. Smartphones, tablets and smartwatch will double up as remote controllers.

The launch of Android TV is contrary to the early rumors that Google will unveil a new set-top box to compete with Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.

Google debuted the software at its developer conference in San Francisco. This year, the focus of the internet search giant's I/O event is the integration of its Android software into consumer products.

Google I/O is officially aimed at helping third party engineers build products using Google tools for the Android and Chrome platforms.
