Gemstar-TV Guide Names Eileen Murphy as Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications

Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. (NASDAQ: GMST)announced today the appointment of Eileen Murphy as senior vicepresident of corporate communications. In this role, Ms. Murphy willmanage all media relations activities for the company and will overseeits internal and external communications. She will report to RichBattista, chief executive officer for Gemstar-TV Guide. Ms. Murphywill assume the communications role previously held by ChristineLevesque, executive vice president, communications, marketing andgovernment affairs, following her departure from the company at year'send.

"At this important time in the company's evolution, I am delightedthat Eileen will be taking on the role of leading the effort toheighten our visibility as the leading provider of televisioninformation and guidance," said Mr. Battista. "She brings to this newposition an extensive background in corporate communications andstrategic positioning, and she has very specific industry experiencethat will be valuable to Gemstar-TV Guide as we move forward."

A media industry veteran, Ms. Murphy joined Gemstar-TV Guide inAugust, 2005 as vice president, communications for the publishinggroup. She has more than 20 years of public relations experience,having managed the communication departments for media organizationsincluding the ABC Television Network, Turner Broadcasting, andPRIMEDIA.

She joined Gemstar-TV Guide directly from the New York Daily Newswhere she oversaw internal and external communications for Mortimer B.Zuckerman's media properties including the Daily News, U.S. News &World Report and Radar Magazine. Prior to her work at the New YorkDaily News, Ms. Murphy directed communications for the New York CityDepartment of Education, overseeing all press relations and othercommunications activities for the nation's largest school system, andfor its chancellor, Joel I. Klein.

From 1993-2000, Ms. Murphy worked for ABC News where she was thesenior communications executive and chief spokesperson. She oversawall communications activities for ABC News and was responsible fordeveloping and implementing PR strategies for all of the division'sprograms and properties. During her career, Ms. Murphy has also heldsenior communications positions at Turner Broadcasting, NewsCorporation, PRIMEDIA and the NCTA. She began her career as a newsassistant at NBC in New York.

Ms. Murphy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communicationsand Business Administration from St. John's University in New York.
