Fans Get Angry As Toblerone Candy Bar Changes Size

(RTTNews) - Mondelez International Inc. has altered the shape of its popular chocolate brand Toblerone, in order to reduce weight of the product.

Toblerone now has narrower triangles and a larger gap between the peaks, which has helped Mondelez reduce the size of 400 grams bar to 360 grams and 170 grams bar to 150 grams.

"Toblerone remains one of the best value and most delicious Swiss chocolate products in the market. This is because we always work hard to ensure we offer value for money for our consumers, but like many other companies, we are experiencing higher costs for numerous ingredients. We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products," the company wrote on its Facebook page.

The change has made many fans furious, with several expressing their dislike on Facebook and Twitter.

"Mondelez has consistently reduced the size of every one of its products including Cadbury in the U.K. - quite frankly you're horrendously greedy. This is the final straw. I'll now refuse to buy any of your products. The taste of half of them has changed since you divested from Kraft and quite frankly I can purchase better Lidl. Horrendous decision," Greg William Flucker commented on the company's decision.

"It looks dreadful. Think you should have reduced the length and kept the chunky triangles," comments Cathy White.
