Exide Technologies Awarded Battery Contracts for Armada de Chile Submarines, German Military

Exide will provide two sets of HAGEN propulsion batteries forreplacement in two of Armada de Chile's submarines, Thomson andSimpson. Exide also provided the propulsion batteries for twoScorpene-class submarines that are being delivered to Armada de Chileby Navantia in Spain and DCN in France.

"Exide has a long history as a battery supplier to military forcesaround the world, and we are excited to again be selected to supplybatteries to Armada de Chile," said Neil Bright, President -Industrial Energy Europe. "This is a major vote of confidence inExide's product technology, quality and reliability."

The batteries will be manufactured at Exide's Industrial Energyplant in Bad Lauterberg, Germany. HAGEN submarine batteries have beenan industry-leading brand for more than 40 years.

The Company also announced that it has been awarded its secondbattery contract in recent months by the Germany Federal Office ofDefense Technology and Procurement (BWB).

The most recent contract calls for Exide to supply approximately11,000 units of its maintenance-free NATO bloc batteries to the GermanArmy for military-vehicle applications. The 12-volt/45-amphere-hourgel batteries are scheduled for delivery in early 2006. The batterieswill be produced at Exide's manufacturing plants in Budingen and BadLauterberg, Germany.

In August, the Company was selected to provide approximately15,000 units of its 12-volt/100-amphere-hour NATO bloc batteries.
