Eurotunnel Welcomes Support from French Prime Minister
Regulatory News:
The summer of 2015 will be remembered by Eurotunnel (Paris:GET) for the governments’ response to the migrant crisis and its impact on transport activities across the short straits, on the one hand and, on the other hand, for traffic growth.
The visit, on Monday 31 August, by French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, Minister for the Interior, Bernard Cazeneuve and European Commissioners, Frans Timmermans & Dimitris Avramopoulos, which follows the visit by British Home Secretary, Theresa May, on August 20th, underlines the vitally important role played by Eurotunnel in international cooperation.
Confronted with attempted intrusions and the risks of accidents on a railway terminal on the scale of a major international airport, the French and British governments have provided a practical and immediately effective response to the security needs of the terminal at Coquelles. A long term solution has also been found and applied to the SNCF-Reseau owned freight yard at Calais-Frethun.
Jacques Gounon, Chairman and Chief Executive of Groupe Eurotunnel SE, thanked the Prime Minister and Minister for the Interior for their powerful demonstration of support for the work of the 2,500 Eurotunnel staff who work night and day to ensure a fast and secure service across the Channel for the public.
