Dollar Tree Q2 Results Miss Estimates; Revises FY Targets - Quick Facts
(RTTNews) - Discount stores operator Dollar Tree, Inc. (DLTR) posted a rise in second-quarter net income to $124.7 million, or $0.56 per share, from $119.2 million, or $0.51 per share in the prior-year quarter. On average, 26 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.57 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
Consolidated net sales for the period were $1.85 billion, up 8.8%, compared with $1.70 billion reported a year back. Analysts estimated revenues of $1.86 billion for the quarter. Comparable-store sales increased 3.7%, on top of a 4.5% growth for the 2012 second quarter.
Looking ahead, the company projects third-quarter sales in the range of $1.87 billion - $1.92 billion, based on low- to- mid single digit positive comparable-store sales; while earnings per share are estimated in the range of $0.54 - $0.59. Analysts estimate earnings of $0.60 per share, and revenue of $1.89 billion for the third quarter.
Full-year sales are currently anticipated in the range of $7.85 billion - $7.97 billion, based on a range of low-single digit positive comparable store sales. Annual earnings per share are now likely to be $2.65 - $2.77. Analysts project earnings of $2.82 per share, on $7.94 billion in revenue for the year.
