Diversity at Hydro-Québec: Important clarifications on the numbers published by the Commission des droits de la personne et de la jeunesse
MONTRÉAL, June 10, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - In its report published yesterday, the Commission des droits de la personne et de la jeunesse (CDPJ) used information from 2015 with respect to diversity at Hydro-Québec. This data does not represent the current situation and should not have been published.
According to the CDPJ numbers, Hydro-Québec employs 706 people who are visible minorities and 252 who are members of ethnic minorities. In fact, as of December 31, 2019, there were 1,266 people who are visible minorities and 360 members of ethnic minorities working for the company.
In concrete terms, there are a total of 1,626 members of visible and ethnic minorities employed by the company, which represents 8.2% of its workforce, an increase of 52% compared with 2015.

Hydro-Québec is committed to hiring more people from diverse backgrounds. In 2009, the company launched an employment equity program with two goals:
- To ensure that the company promotes diversity and inclusion.
- To increase the representation of groups designated under the Act respecting equal access to employment in public bodies.
