Diesel Technology Forum Webinar "Making the Most of the VW Settlement in the Pacific Northwest: More Clean Air for the Dollar"
WASHINGTON, April 27, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As individual states around the U.S. move forward with plans on how to invest their share of the $2.8 billion Environmental Mitigation Trust included in the VW settlement, the Diesel Technology Forum will host a series of webinars with engine and vehicle industry leaders to discuss the best investments to achieve better air quality as required under the settlement.
All 50 states will be receiving an allocation from the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust based on the number of noncompliant VW vehicles registered in their state.
On Tuesday, May 9th, at 11 a.m. PT, the Forum will conduct the first webinar focusing on potential investments in the Pacific Northwest – specifically Washington and Oregon.
There is no cost for the webinar but space is limited. Register for the webinarhereorhttp://www.dieselforum.org/webinar/making-the-most-of-the-vw-settlement-in-the-pacific-northwest-more-clean-air-for-the-dollar
An Historic Opportunity to Improve Air Quality
The Environmental Mitigation Trust included in the VW settlement represents an historic opportunity for Washington State and Oregon to help improve regional air quality. Together they will receive $185 Million in Trust revenue for the upgrading or replacement of older commercial vehicles and off-road equipment specifically for the purpose of reducing NOx emissions.
Oregon will receive $73 million and Washington will receive $112 million in trust fund monies.
How can these dollars best be used? What are the best options for reducing NOx emissions in the region, and which technologies deliver the largest reductions on a dollar per pound basis? Switching to electric vehicles? Targeting the oldest or the largest sources of emissions like marine vessels, locomotives or commercial trucks?
Diesel Technology Forum representatives will present recent research summarizing cost-effective technology solutions to meet the NOx mitigation goals of the Environmental Mitigation Trust. Engine, vehicle and equipment manufacturers will be on hand to answer questions regarding the technology availability and readiness.
Agenda Overview:
Panelist will present:
- An overview of the VW settlement
- Eligibility requirements for commercial vehicles in Appendix D
- Timelines and a presentation of cost effectiveness of investments
- NOx reduction potential for clean diesel compared to other technologies
- Recent emissions benefits research from IHS.
Who Should Be Interested:
- Elected officials
- Environmental and energy stakeholders
- State air quality regulators
- Contacts for "VW Trust" lead agencies
- Fleet managers/equipment owners
- Representatives of ports
- Members of the media
The next webinar will focus on issues in California and is scheduled for May 18th. In June, the Forum will be conducting webinars focusing on clean air investment policies in Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania.
