David Ruiz Named President of UPS Florida District

David Ruiz, a 32-year UPS veteran, has assumed command as president of the company’s new and expanded Florida District, directing small package operations in an area that covers most of the state of Florida.

The Florida District is one of 20 new Districts dividing the United States activated earlier this year. It includes the majority of Florida with the exception of the western panhandle of the state and features a package-delivery operation with some 13,000 employees.

Ruiz most recently served as the manager of UPS’s Wisconsin District. He began his UPS career in 1978 as a package handler in the Metro Chicago District and after being promoted into management, moved through a series of jobs of increasing responsibility that included extensive international experience. Ruiz served as the country manager of Mexico before being named manager of the South Carolina District in 2003, then oversaw 28 countries in Europe as the manager of the North Europe District.

UPS announced in January it was going to streamline its domestic management structure to improve overall performance by reducing the number of U.S. Districts from 46 to 20. Thanks to today’s technology and the management strengths of its people, a District office now can oversee a much larger geographic area than in years’ past.

As part of the realignment, UPS also is expanding its outreach to customers by strengthening local sales and marketing efforts. No package handling facilities have been affected by the consolidation of management offices, nor have any UPS drivers or package handlers.
