CNA Announces Risk Control Webinars on Employment Risks
All companies face a number of employee-related risks and challenges, from dealing with an aging or obese workforce to insurance fraud and drug testing mistakes. To help these companies better understand these risks and applicable risk control solutions, the Risk Control unit of CNA insurance companies has created a series of Webinars offered on a complimentary basis to CNA producers, policyholders and potential customers.
For the month of September, following is a list of classes/topics and the corresponding dates (all classes are offered at 2 p.m. Eastern Time). To register for a course, visit www.cna.com/rceducation.
Physical Capability Testing — Matching the Worker to the Job - September 10
One of the critical emerging issues affecting many companies today is the aging workforce. With the downturn in the economy, many employees are now planning to work longer before retiring. Employers may benefit by using a cost-effective method to keep these workers productive and injury-free. Join CNA Risk Control and Cost Reduction Technologies to learn how this method can reduce the probability of overexertion injuries and enhance company bottom-line profitability.
Top 10 Drug Testing Mistakes Employers Often Make - September 14
When it comes to state laws for non-regulated workplace drug and alcohol testing, employers can unknowingly create litigation landmines in their policies by failing to use certified drug testing professionals, requiring disclosure of prescription medications, not following state confidentiality laws, not recognizing the impact of the ADA’s "regarded as" discrimination amendment, and not taking medical marijuana laws into account. Experienced management labor attorney Tommy Eden, who drafts drug-free workplace policies across the U.S., will lead this session. Participants will receive a free annual Substance Abuse Program Administrators Association (SAPPA) membership.
Social Media: A New Employment Law Frontier - September 20
Over the past few years, social networking websites like Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter have exploded in popularity. The use of social networking websites can lead to a variety of employment-related issues, as well as new and increased risks in the context of employment claims of discrimination and harassment. This session will review social media policies and leading practices which can assist employers in managing this exposure to prevent or reduce employment-related problems.
The Effects of Obesity in the Workplace - September 24
One of the leading emerging issues for many companies is obesity in the workforce. The obesity issue can affect a company’s bottom line profitability as a result of more lost work days, higher indemnity costs, and higher medical costs. Join CNA Risk Control and Ted Borgstadt of TrestleTree to find out how companies can affect long-term sustained behavioral change and use highly individualized health coaching to change underlying behaviors.
Emerging Trends Involving Fraud - September 30
Insurance fraud costs Americans at least $80 billion a year, and affects everyone – including consumers, employers and insurance carriers. Becoming more aware of fraud schemes in order to detect and prevent them can ultimately help boost the financial profitability and stability of any business.
