(RTTNews) - Network specialist Ciena Corp. (CIEN) reported that net loss for the fiscal third quarter 2013 narrowed to $1.2 million, or $0.01 per share, from $29.8 million, or $0.30 per share, for the fiscal third quarter 2012.

Income from operations was $14.83 million, compared to a loss from operations of $15.27 million in the prior year. Adjusted net income for the fiscal third quarter 2013 was $26.2 million, or $0.23 per share, compared to an adjusted net loss of $4.1 million, or $0.04 per common share, for the fiscal third quarter 2012. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.16 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
