Ciena Q1 Loss Reduces, Revenue Up - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Network specialist Ciena Corp. (CIEN) posted a narrower GAAP net loss of $15.9 million, or $0.15 per share in the first quarter 2014, compared with last year's loss of $47.3 million, or $0.47 per share. On an adjusted basis, net income for the recent quarter was $13.7 million, or $0.13 per share.

For the fiscal first quarter 2014, Ciena generated higher revenues of $533.7 million, as compared with $453.1 million last year.

On average, 20 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.06 on $533.75 million in revenue for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
