CEO: Sonic Will Serve Pancake On A Stick
(RTTNews) - Sonic Corp. (SONC) plans to reintroduce its previously popular "Pancake on a Stick" to its restaurant menus in the early spring, the Business Insider reported, citing the fast-food chain's CEO Cliff Hudson.
The menu item features a pancake wrapped around a sausage and then attached to a stick. It resembles a corn dog.
Oklahoma City-based Sonic, one of the largest chain of drive-in restaurants in the U.S., had first introduced the breakfast mashup in 2002. While it was initially a hit, it was taken off the menu a few years later.
Fans of the Pancake on a Stick had taken to social media sites, demanding the return of the breakfast item. The reintroduction of the Pancake on a Stick may help Sonic to boost its sales.
In late October, Sonic reported revenues for the fourth quarter that declined more than 7 percent from last year to $162.12 million, and also missed analysts' estimates.
System same-store sales for the quarter declined 2 percent. Same-store sales measure sales at established stores, stripping out additional sales from newly opened locations. They are considered a key gauge of performance for retailers and chain restaurants.
Burger King had reintroduced the Chicken Fries in 2015, after earlier discontinuing it in 2012. The reintroduction of the item has helped boost sales at the fast-food chain. The Chicken Fries were originally introduced in the early 2000s.
