Canada Funds New Technology to Improve Industrial Carbon Capture Capacity

QUEBEC CITY, Aug. 7, 2018 /CNW/ - As Canada transitions to a low-carbon future, investments in clean technology will support jobs for the middle class and improve air quality by reducing pollution.

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Member of Parliament for Québec, on behalf of Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, today announced $375,000 for a unique carbon capture technology at CO2 Solutions in Quebec City that will cut costs for future commercial projects.

This research and development project, which is part of the $49-million Energy Innovation Program, will improve air quality and fight climate change by reducing CO2 from large industrial emitters through utilization and storage.

CO2 Solution's carbon capture system will see major improvements to their process. Such improvements will reduce costs for future commercial projects that integrate this enzymatic technology.

Carbon capture and utilization technology focuses on developing new ways to convert CO2 into fuels and other value-added products such as improved building materials.

Through Generation Energy, Canada's national energy dialogue, Canadians see an opportunity to be a leader in the transition to a clean growth economy. Canada will continue to support cleantech initiatives that create jobs for the middle class, support Canadian industry competitiveness, clean our air and act on climate change.
