Canada Funds New Technology to Improve Industrial Carbon Capture Capacity

QUEBEC CITY, Aug. 7, 2018 /CNW/ - As Canada transitions to a low-carbon future, investments in clean technology will support jobs for the middle class and improve air quality by reducing pollution.

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Member of Parliament for Québec, on behalf of Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, today announced $375,000 for a unique carbon capture technology at CO₂ Solutions in Quebec City that will cut costs for future commercial projects.

This research and development project, which is part of the $49-million Energy Innovation Program, will improve air quality and fight climate change by reducing CO₂ from large industrial emitters through utilization and storage.  

CO₂ Solution's carbon capture system will see major improvements to their process. Such improvements will reduce costs for future commercial projects that integrate this enzymatic technology.   

Carbon capture and utilization technology focuses on developing new ways to convert CO₂ into fuels and other value-added products such as improved building materials.
