Cal-Maine Foods Turns To Profit In Q4 - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Shell eggs producer Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. (CALM) Monday reported fourth-quarter net earnings of $31.5 million or $1.30 per share compared with a loss of $3.8 million or $0.16 per share, last year. Results for the year-ago quarter included a charge of $17.0 million or $0.71 per basic and diluted share, after tax, related to the settlement of anti-trust litigation.

On average, 2 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $1.15 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.

Quarterly sales rose to $371.6 million from $325.9 million for the fourth quarter a year ago.

Commenting on the results Dolph Baker, CEO of Cal-Maine Foods, Inc., said, "We are pleased with our financial and operating performance for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 with sales up 14.0 percent over the same period a year ago. These results reflect both higher volumes and higher average selling prices compared with the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013."

The company announced a cash dividend of nearly $0.434 per share to holders of its common and Class A common stock, payable on August 24, to shareholders of record on August 9.
