Cal-Maine Foods Q2 Profit Climbs - Quick Facts
(RTTNews) - Shell eggs producer Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. (CALM) posted higher second-quarter net income of $26.1 million, or $1.08 per share, compared with $14.3 million, or $0.60 per share, last year. On average, 2 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $1.05 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
Net sales for the recent quarter totaled $354.3 million, an eight percent growth from $328.9 million reported a year back.
According to the company, the quarterly results reflect the additional volumes related to the Maxim acquisition, completed in November 2012, which contributed to the 6.2 percent rise in dozens sold during the quarter. Average selling prices grew one percent compared with the second quarter of fiscal 2013. The firm said its specialty egg sales continued to trend higher, accounting for 16.4 percent of dozens sold and 23.7 percent of total shell egg sales revenue for the quarter.
