Bruce Andrew Fowler, Ph.D. is recognized by Continental Who's Who
ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Who's Who recognizes Bruce Andrew Fowler, Ph.D., as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in recognition of his contributions to the field of Higher Education and Toxicology.
Dr. Fowler is an Adjunct Professor and Toxicologist at the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health and a Presidents Professor of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Alaska- Fairbanks.. Additionally, he serves as a Founding Partner at Toxicology and Risk Assessment Consulting Services. He brings over 46 years of experience to the field and touts expertise in application of computational toxicology to risk assessment as well as molecular biology markers.
Inspired by working at the University of Washington, where he worked on the pesticide endrin (which is lethal to embryos of fish) he now continues his career with a focus on consulting and public service. For example, he is the current President of the Rotary Club of North Bethesda, Maryland and also serves as the Federal Legislative and National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE)-PAC Chair for Rockville, Maryland NARFE Chapter 1127.
Dr. Fowler earned his Ph.D. in Pathology from the University of Oregon Medical School and his Bachelor's degree in Marine Fisheries Biology from the University of Washington – Seattle. A number of published works (260 plus journal articles, symposia proceedings and book chapters) fill his resume.
In addition, he authored Molecular Biological Markers for Toxicology and Risk Assessment, published in 2016; co-edited the fourth edition of Handbook on the Toxicology of Metals in 2015; and edited Computational Toxicology: Methods and Applications for Risk Assessment in 2013.
To further his professional development, Dr. Fowler is a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, and a member of the American College of Toxicology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society for Nanomedicine, the Society of Toxicology and the Society for Risk Analysis.
As a result of his impressive work, Dr. Fowler has amassed a series of honors. Among these, he was named Chairman of the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council Committee on Measuring Lead Exposure in Infants, Children and Other Sensitive Populations; Awarded a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellowship, 1990; Fulbright Scholarship and Swedish Medical Research Council Visiting Professor Fellowship, Karolinska Institute Stockholm, Sweden, 1994–5;Colgate-Palmolive Visiting Professorship in In Vitro Toxicology, University of Washington, 1998-9; Member, Fulbright Scholarship Review Committee for Scandinavia, 1999- 2001, (Chairman, 2000-1); Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (A.T.S.), 2000- Present; Member, National Metals Risk Assessment Framework Review Panel USEPA Science Advisory Board, 2003-6; Elected Council Member, Society of Toxicology, 2005-7; Member of All Ages Lead Model Review Panel USEPA Science Advisory Board 2005-6; Member of the Clean Air Advisory Committee (CASAC) Lead Review Panel, USEPA Science Advisory Board 2006-2008; Visiting Scientist at the National Institute of Health Sciences, Sakura, Japan, March 19-31, 2006; Elected to Toxicology Expert Committee, U.S. Pharmacopeia(USP), 2010-2015; NCEH/ATSDR Honor Award for Excellence in Leadership Award(Non-Supervisory, December 2010) ; 2014 USP Award for an Innovative Response to Public Health Challenges; Appointed to USP Nanotechnology Subcommittee 2015-, Appointed to the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) 2016-2020.
