BrightLife Direct Announces Physical Therapist Scholarship Recipient
SILVER SPRING, Md., Oct. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- BrightLife Direct is excited to announce the winner of the 2017 BrightLife Physical Therapist Scholarship - Kara Arps, a current Emory University student pursuing a Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
Kara is an exceptional student, balancing a 4.0 GPA with clinical rotations, research, volunteer work and several leadership positions at Emory, including the 2018 class president. Our selection committee was especially impressed by the breadth of her volunteer work. Over the last five years, Kara has worked with special needs children, under-served families, athletes and farmers to provide assistance and pro-bono care. Kara's academic achievements include publication in Human Molecular Genetics and an in-service presentation to staff at the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Miami.
Kara learned the benefits of physical therapy early on, when she struggled with the physical and emotional limitations of wearing a restricting back brace as a teenager. Her personal experience combined with a love for science led her down the path to become a physical therapist herself. After she graduates, Kara plans to pursue a residency in pediatrics.
"I will educate families on caring for their child and empower them with all available resources, so that the benefit of their rehab persists beyond their time in therapy. I will discover what each child values and incorporate his interests and ambitions into therapy goals. I will encourage them to find joy in each day, even the most difficult, while being sensitive towards their physical and emotional conditions." - Kara Arps (excerpt from essay)
