Briggs & Stratton Expands Just Check & Add™ Technology

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In early 2017, homeowners will find Briggs & Stratton Corporation's Just Check & Add technology available on more walk mowers across more brands as the company brings the innovation to its popular 625ex Series engine.1

Just Check & Add technology simplifies maintenance for lawn mower owners, as they no longer need to change the oil.2 Traditionally, engines without this technology typically require an oil change annually to replace the oil that has broken down due to heat and dirt from use. Engines featuring Just Check & Add are designed to run cleaner and cooler. Homeowners simply check and add SAE 30 small engine oil if it runs low to make starting easy and maximize the engine's overall performance.

"We consistently hear from lawn mower owners that annually changing the oil is a pain point. They tell us it's messy, time-consuming and a hassle to dispose of the old oil," explained Rick Zeckmeister, vice president of engines marketing and planning at Briggs & Stratton. "The move to expand the availability of Briggs & Stratton's Just Check & Add technology is the next step in making this innovation the standard across all walk mower engines."

Briggs & Stratton introduced the technology in 2015 on the EXi Series engines, and has now tested and qualified the 625ex engine to be Just Check & Add capable. The automotive-style paper air cleaner element is the key element that keeps the engine oil cleaner on the 625ex engines. Additionally, the Overhead Valve Design with its innovative scroll design and cooling package allows the engines to run cooler and reduces the oil temperature.

The move follows the expansion of Just Check & Add across other walk mower innovations from Briggs & Stratton, including coupling Just Check & Add with its Quiet Power Technology® in early 2016. That combination resulted in a walk mower that is low maintenance and up to 60 percent quieter.3 In early 2017, Briggs & Stratton's Mow N' Stow® engine will also feature Just Check & Add. Available exclusively on Toro's Recycler® with SmartStow® mower, it is the only mower that stores upright without leaking gas or oil to take up to 70 percent less space4 and never needs an oil change.

Look for walk mowers with the 625ex Series engine with Just Check & Add technology in early 2017 at retailers and authorized dealers.

1Just Check & Add is only available on 625ex models with press-fit-style air cleaners.

3 As tested against Toro model 20371 and Honda model HRR216VKA.
4 Space savings are in relation to the space consumed by a Toro 22" walk power mower that is stored with the handle in the standard operating position.
