Assisi Animal Health Shares Signs of Urinary Crystals & Bladder Stones in Felines
PINEHURST, N.C., March 4, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Assisi Animal Health developed the Assisi Loop®, an effective non-pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory device (NPAID®) that works as a PEMF therapy for animals. The Loop helps heal wounds and relieve pain in horses, cats, and dogs. Assisi Animal Health shares signs of urinary crystals and bladder stones in felines.
Bladder issues are not uncommon in felines. Among the most common of these issues are urinary crystals, or crystalluria, and bladder stones. Urinary and bladder issues can be particularly difficult to identify in cats, as they may not always demonstrate outright symptoms, which makes it even more important that pet owners understand the warning signs of these health issues.
Crystalluria. Urinary crystals occur in cats when his or her urine's pH balance is thrown off in one direction or the other. This imbalance can be caused by a multitude of things, such as insufficient water intake, an overly alkaline living environment, or inflammation in a cat's lower urinary tract. Regardless of the cause, urinary crystals are extremely painful and though crystals passed in the litter box can go unnoticed by pet owners, there are other warning signs. Blood in the urine, frequent licking of genitalia, passing small quantities of urine, urinating outside the litter box, and depression are all symptoms. If the cat in question has stopped passing urine altogether, a veterinary professional should be consulted immediately, as this is a medical emergency.
Bladder Stones. This bladder issue is normally the result of crystalluria that clump together forming a stone. Dry commercial pet food that doesn't contain enough water is also a cause. The most recognizable and common symptoms of bladder stones are blood in the urine and straining to urinate. The former occurs when the stones rub up against the wall of the bladder, which will cause damage to the tissue and result in bleeding. The latter is caused by inflammation of the bladder walls or urethra, physical blockage of urine, or muscle spasms. Bladder stones are also extremely painful for cats and action should be taken as soon as possible when these symptoms are identified.
