Assisi Animal Health Explains Benefits of Riding a Schoolmaster Horse
PINEHURST, N.C., March 28, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- There are many advantages to riding a schoolmaster horse which are highlighted by Assisi Animal Health, developer of the Assisi Loop®, an effective non-pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory device (NPAID®) that works as PEMF therapy for horses.
A schoolmaster horse is one that is exceptionally well behaved, experienced, and is often a specialist in a specific skill. For new riders that are just learning or those who are interested in honing their existing skills, schoolmasters present an excellent opportunity to do just that. The following are some of the benefits of riding a schoolmaster horse.
Learning to ride. Since most schoolmaster horses are generally older, more obedient horses, they are perfect for those who are just learning to ride. This is due to the fact that the inexperienced rider does not need to get every command correct in order for the horse to understand what is being requested. Since these horses have had more experience being ridden and given commands, an accidental hit with the reins or an improper command will not necessarily result in an undesired behavior. In some instances, a very experienced schoolmaster will even ignore the commands being given if it recognizes that it will jeopardize the rider, which makes them ideal for children and beginners.
Honing skills. In many instances, although not always, schoolmasters are show horses that are no longer participating in competition, which means that they have had years of experience with riders. For that reason, they will often be skilled at one particular aspect of showing. For example, a schoolmaster may be very skilled at trot work, but not jumping. It's important for the rider to work with a schoolmaster that is good at the desired skill since schoolmasters are generally older and will not be receptive to learning new things.
Building Confidence. Due to their patient and safe nature, schoolmasters are excellent horses for building a rider's confidence. Riding a horse that is familiar with riding commands and motions makes developing one's own skills easier. A rider's time can be spent mastering the intended skill, while not needing to control or "school" the horse. As a rider continues to work with a schoolmaster, the familiarity of the movements goes a long way in making him or her feel confident in their own abilities to translate their skills to a different horse.
