Asetek Announces Eight Installations in the TOP500 Supercomputer List
Asetek® (ASETEK.OL) today announced that its RackCDU D2C™ (Direct-to-Chip liquid cooling technology is cooling eight installations in the November 2016 edition of the TOP500 list of the fastest supercomputers in the world.
Unlike one-size-fits-all approaches, the flexibility of Asetek distributed liquid cooling technology enables OEMs to provide a fit-to-need strategy that is compelling to the elite members of the supercomputing community.
"With the accelerating trend of higher wattages and the continuing requirement of high density, the need for adaptable, cost effective, and reliable liquid cooling is accelerating among those striving to obtain TOP500 status,” said John Hamill, Vice President of WW Sales and Marketing. "This need is exactly what Asetek’s distributed cooling architecture provides.”
Ranked 6th on the list, Oakforest-PACS is the highest ranked system cooled by Asetek. It is also the highest performance supercomputer system in Japan. The installation features Asetek liquid cooled Fujitsu ® PRIMERGY™ servers installed at the Joint Center for Advanced High-Performance Computing (JCAHPC) in conjunction with University of Tokyo and Tsukuba University.
Also included are Asetek liquid cooled Penguin Computing ® Tundra™ clusters under the National Nuclear Security Administration’s tri-laboratory Commodity Technology Systems program (CTS-1). These clusters are located at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). They include LANL Grizzly (#66), SNL Serrano (#84), SNL Cayenne (#85) and LLNL Topaz (#169.)
Ranked 115th is the Fujitsu installation at A*STAR Computational Resource Centre (A*CRC) and National Super Computing Centre (NSCC) in Singapore. Located at the equator, this installation demonstrates that Asetek’s data center liquid cooling technology can provide benefits in even the warmest climates
At 287th and 354th are installations at Sandia National Laboratory (Sky Bridge) and Mississippi State University (Shadow) utilizing the Cray® CS-300LC. Both of these sites have made been on the list since 2015 and 2014 respectively.
Asetek is currently showcasing its breadth of worldwide HPC installations and range of solutions at SC16 booth #2301 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
About the TOP500 List
The first version of what became today’s TOP500 list started as an exercise for a small conference in Germany in June 1993. Out of curiosity, the authors decided to revisit the list in November 1993 to see how things had changed. About that time they realized they might be onto something and decided to continue compiling the list, which is now a much-anticipated, much-watched and much-debated twice-yearly event.
The TOP500 list is compiled by Erich Strohmaier and Horst Simon of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; Jack Dongarra of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and Martin Meuer of ISC Group, Germany.
