AMFORM Manufacturing Plant Closes in Glendale

GLENDALE, Ariz., Dec. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul has ceased operations at its American Fabricators of Raw Materials plant, or AMFORM, located at 4650 W. Pasadena.

U-Haul continues to own the property but plans for the building are still being considered, plant president Cedric Moore confirmed. The last day of AMFORM operations was Dec. 2.

The property was acquired in 1963 and served for decades as an assembly plant and rental truck repair workshop, as well as home to a local U-Haul marketing company office. In 1994, it transitioned to the Company's manufacturing arm known as AMFORM.

The plant manufactured items like utility/furniture/appliance dollies, truck/trailer awnings, key-drop boxes, carriages/housings, tools, U-Haul display signage, and other components and special projects.

Space limitations factored into the AMFORM decision as U-Haul pursued options to better meet its needs and the needs of its Team Members while curbing the need for outsourcing. U-Haul sometimes closes stores and other entities for reasons such as physical plant limitations; long-term strategic plans; shifts in demographics; trends in migration; expansion of its neighborhood dealer network; and the proximity to new or existing U-Haul stores and plants.
