America's Top 10 Youth Volunteers of 2017 to be Announced Monday at the 22nd Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

TONIGHT, 6:00 P.M. – Top Two Youth Volunteers From Each State Honored

WHERE:

National Museum of Natural History, Constitution Ave. at 10^th St. NW, Washington, D.C.

WHAT:

The top two youth volunteers of 2017 from each state and Washington, D.C. will gather for the 22^nd annual Prudential Spirit of Community State Awards Ceremony.  From 6-7 p.m., they will hear from Prudential Financial Chairman and CEO John Strangfeld, Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps and four past honorees who have remained involved in service. Later, each 2017 honoree will be presented with a $1,000 award. Youth volunteers from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Ireland, India, China and Brazil will also be honored.

MONDAY, MAY 8, 9:30 A.M. – Honorees Promote Literacy at D.C. Elementary School

WHERE:

Thomson Elementary School, 1200 L Street NW, Washington, D.C.

WHAT:

The State Honorees will present donated books to the school and conduct small group reading sessions with the students.

MONDAY, MAY 8, 12:45 P.M. – Nation's Top Ten Youth Volunteers of 2017 Announced

WHERE:

Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, 1301 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.

WHAT:

The nation's top 10 youth volunteers of 2017 will be announced. The 10 National Honorees will be presented with personal awards of $5,000, gold medallions, crystal trophies and $5,000 Prudential Foundation grants for charitable organizations of their choice. 

MONDAY, MAY 8, 2:30 P.M. – Japanese Delegation to Donate Books at D.C. School

WHERE:

School Without Walls at Francis Stevens, 2425 N Street NW, Washington, D.C.

WHAT:

Japan's Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honorees will present donated original books to the school and will read them to the students in attendance.
