American Water’s John Young to Speak at Western Governors’ Association Meeting

American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company, today announced that John Young, chief water technology officer and president of American Water Works Service Company, is speaking at a Western Governors’ Association workshop on September 14, 2010 in Washington, D.C. Young will serve on a panel to discuss drought impacts and preparedness.

Hosted by the Western Governors’ Association and the Western States Water Council, the Workshop on Drought, Water and Climate will engage a diverse group of federal, tribal, state, and local partners from the public and private sectors to solicit decision makers’ priority needs for drought and climate information. The goal of the workshop is to develop a set of specific recommendations to improve drought information coordination, delivery, and response in a changing environment.

An industry expert with more than 30 years of experience in water and wastewater design and management, Young will discuss how American Water, as a water services provider with a large footprint of systems across the country, anticipates and responds to drought impacts.
