Amcor Tobacco Packaging Announces Consolidation in Western Europe (Germany) and Expansion into Asia (Indonesia)

Following a review of the changing demands of its customers and markets, Amcor Tobacco Packaging has determined that there is an overcapacity in gravure printing across Western Europe. In order to rebalance its own supply and demand, Amcor has announced plans to close its operation in Neumunster, Germany.

Amcor expects the closure process to take place over the course of four months with final closure anticipated on or before December 31, 2014. Production will be transferred to other Amcor Tobacco Packaging sites across Western Europe. As operations are scaled down, the first priority is, as always, the safety of those on site. Throughout the closure process, Amcor will continue to provide the best quality and service to customers.

The company has established measures, which provide appropriate compensation and outplacement services and support the objective of closing the business in an orderly and responsible manner.

While Amcor Tobacco Packaging is consolidating capacity in Western Europe, it is also actively supporting growth of its customers in emerging growth markets. Today, Amcor announced plans to build a new tobacco packaging plant in Indonesia, the third largest tobacco market in the world and the second largest market in Asia. The production facility is expected to be fully operational in East Java by late 2015.
