Alcoa Results Top Estimate - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Alcoa Inc (AA) Wednesday reported third-quarter net earnings of $149 million or $0.12 per share compared with $24 million or $0.02 per share last year.

Results for the recent quarter included $221 million in special items largely tied to restructurings to improve the cost structure of the commodity business.

Excluding items, adjusted earnings for the quarter were $0.31 per share compared with $0.11 per share a year ago.

Revenues for the quarter climbed 8% to $6.24 billion compared with $5.77 billion in the prior year, led by organic growth, favorable metal pricing and higher energy sales.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $0.23 per share on revenues of $5.85 billion for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Meanwhile, shipments for the quarter slid to 1.23 metric tons from 1.26 metric tons a year ago.
