Alcan Appoints Gwyn Morgan as a Director

MONTREAL, Canada, January 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Yves Fortier, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alcan Inc. (NYSE: AL, TSX: AL) is pleased to announce today the appointment of Gwyn Morgan as a Director of the Company.

Mr. Morgan is Executive Vice-Chairman of Encana Corporation, where he was President and Chief Executive Officer until December 2005. From 1994 to 2002, Mr. Morgan was founding President and Chief Executive Officer of Alberta Energy Corporation, which merged with PanCanadian Energy Corporation to create Encana Corporation.

Mr. Morgan is also the lead director of HSBC Bank Canada, a Director of SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., and a member of the energy advisory board of Accenture Ltd. He was selected Canada's Outstanding CEO of the Year for 2005.
