Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT) gained 2 percent to $20.36 as its second quarter results topped Wall Street expectations. The company also guided third quarter adjusted earnings per share in line with Street view.

Nordstrom Inc. (JWN) was up two-tenths of a percent to $74.26. The company's first quarter earnings declined from the year-ago period and missed market view. Meanwhile, total revenues for the quarter improved and topped the consensus estimate. The company also reiterated its annual outlook.

Avon Products Inc. (AVP) was flat at $7.07. Avon reported that it has not received any offer or other communication from PTG Capital Partners and has not been able to confirm that such an entity exists. Earlier, a regulatory filing showed that PTG Capital Partners has proposed to acquire Avon at at $18.75 per share.

BSQUARE Corp. (BSQR) surged 32 percent to $5.40. The company swung to a profit in its first quarter, while revenue improved 6 percent from the prior year period. The company also expects continued GAAP profitability in its second quarter.

Decliners:

Symantec Corp. (SYMC) declined 3 percent to $25.05. The company's fourth quarter earnings and revenue declined from the prior year period and were below analysts' expectations. The company also forecast its first quarter results below Street view.

Dillard's Inc. (DDS) was down 4 percent to $118.81. The company's first quarter profit declined from the year-ago quarter and missed Wall Street estimate. The company said it is disappointed with its first quarter performance and that 1 percent sales decline hampered its ability to leverage operating expenses and to drive net income growth.

King Digital Entertainment plc (KING) plunged 11 percent to $13.35 as it forecast second quarter gross bookings to decline sharply from the year-ago quarter as well as sequentially. At the same time, the company's first quarter non-GAAP results were above Street view.

Keurig Green Mountain, Inc. (GMCR) declined 5 percent to $97.25.
