Affymetrix Results Top Estimates

(RTTNews) - Affymetrix Inc (AFFX), a provider of life science and molecular diagnostic products, on Wednesday reported first-quarter net earnings of $4.4 million or $0.06 per share compared with a loss of $10.5 million or $0.14 per share last year.

Excluding amortization costs and other one-time items, adjusted earnings for the quarter were $0.10 per share compared with earnings of $0.03 per share a year ago.

Revenues for the quarter were up at $88.7 million compared with $83 million in the prior year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $0.04 per share on revenues of $86.8 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Gross margin improved to 62% from 56% last year.
