REGINA, Aug. 16, 2018 /CNW/ - The Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and Member of Parliament (Regina–Wascana), today announced funding of $472,000 to the Friends of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum for the museum's public space rejuvenation project.

This funding, provided through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, will ensure that the museum's public spaces meet current building code standards for accessibility and inclusivity. Upgrades include renovating public gathering spaces; replacing the current small elevator with a modern one that meets universal accessibility standards; and adding a gender-neutral washroom.

Quick Facts

The renovation of the lobby and exhibit levels will create an expanded public gathering space and provide an area to deliver school programs. The larger space will allow staff to deliver more efficient programming, and let the programming department develop the space to fit their needs.

The project will also create an opening in the second floor to provide a space to display Saskatchewan's internationally famous Tyrannosaurus rex, "Scotty," on the first and second levels.

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum is Saskatchewan's provincial museum and a branch of the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport. The Museum's legislated mandate is to increase interest in, knowledge and understanding of, and appreciation and respect for Saskatchewan's natural history and Indigenous cultures.

The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund supports the improvement of physical conditions for artistic creativity and innovation. The fund supports the improvement, renovation and construction of arts and heritage facilities, as well as the acquisition of specialized equipment and the development of feasibility studies.
