COLOMBIA: Ceasefire Between Government And ELN Moves Ahead Without Incident

(RTTNews) - The cease-fire agreement enacted between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group is being respected by both parties.

"Today marks 19 days since the ceasefire is in place and it is satisfactory to announce that so far there have been no incidents," Juan Camilo Restrepo, the Colombian chief negotiator with the rebels. saod on Friday.

Restrepo added that "an impartial and international monitoring mechanism has been established, under the supervision of the Catholic Church, to ensure that the cease-fire goes well."

The cease-fire is in place since October 1. Under the deal reached in Quito, both parties must engage in talks aimed at reaching a definitive peace agreement, as was done between the government and the FARC last year.
