KEMET Standardizes PC Fleet with Dimension Data's Dynamic Desktop Deployment Solution

NEW YORK, Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Dimension Data, a leading IT solutions and services provider, today announced the successful installation of its Dynamic Desktop Deployment solution at KEMET Corporation , a leading producer of high-performance capacitors used throughout every facet of the electronics industry. Dimension Data's solution allowed KEMET to automatically deploy software on an initial 5,600 desktops across its worldwide operations, enabling the company to standardize its PC fleet, reduce the cost and effort of PC rollouts and PC management, increase end-user productivity, facilitate patch management and simplify the management of desktop images.

Dimension Data's Dynamic Desktop Deployment solution utilizes a combination of smart technology, processes and a well-defined management framework that is able to image hundreds of desktops per day at a lower fixed cost per desktop than traditional approaches. Prior to its desktop deployment project, KEMET's IT department provided remote locations with necessary applications by duplicating installation files onto a local server, controlling the PC remotely and installing the application manually. Today, KEMET enjoys the benefits of having one standardized computer image at all of its global locations. The company can deploy an application as simply as adding a user to a Microsoft Active Directory group. Within an hour, the user receives this application automatically.

"For example, if an employee located in Mexico needed a copy of Microsoft Office Project installed, the IT department had to duplicate installation files onto a server that was closer, remote control the PC and run an install. The solution typically is used for Standard Operating Environment (SOE) image development, desktop deployment process design and planning, Windows Vista or XP image creation, application compatibility testing, application packaging and distribution, centralized and automated software distribution through Microsoft System Management Server, Windows Vista or XP migration (including data and local settings), Microsoft Office deployments and patch management.
