MEXICO: Mexico City Hit By Strong Earthquakes

(RTTNews) - Earthquakes measuring 6.8 and a 7.1 struck Mexico City at noon (local time) Tuesday, said the Mexican National Seismological Center and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The quakes epicenters were located in the state of Puebla, near Mexico City. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The Mexico City airport administration reported through its Twitter account that it would run security inspections at the lanes and its terminal.

The tremor hit Mexico's capital only a few days after an 8.1 magnitude quake has left 96 people dead in the country's Southern region.

Tuesday's quake also occurred exactly 32 years after a powerful tremor killed around 10,000 people.

"On the way to Oaxaca, I immediately returned to Mexico City to attend the earthquake situation," wrote the Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on Twitter a few minutes after the news on the quakes.
