London, 02 June 2014 -- In a report issued today, Moody's Investor Service says East African Development Bank's (EADB) Ba1 rating reflects the strengthening in the bank's governance and risk-management policies, and the significant improvement in capital adequacy and leverage metrics in recent years. However, the past history of high levels of non-performing loans constitutes a key rating constraint given the low average quality of its loan portfolio, which reflects the challenging operating environment in East Africa.
