Technion Presents Surgical Theater: From Fighter Pilots to Surgeons; Using Virtual Reality to Perfect the Critical Mission
DALLAS, Aug. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Moty Avisar, Co-Founder and CEO of Surgical Theater is presenting on behalf of Technion Institute of Technology at the 3rd Annual Israel Today Community Symposium on August 12th, in Dallas, TX.
Technion, a science and technology research university, consistently ranks among the top 50 universities in the world and ranks 8th for producing Nobel Prize winners, earning 3 within the last century. 70% of Israel's founders and managers of high-tech industries are Technion graduates – including Moty Avisar and several other executives and engineers at Surgical Theater. Leaders in innovation have been born out of these top universities in Israel, making it known as the Startup Nation. With a population of just 8.5 million people, Israel features the largest number of startups per capita in the world, around 1 startup for every 1,400 people. It boasts the greatest concentration of high-tech startup companies outside of the Silicon Valley.
Surgical Theater, the market leader in virtual and augmented reality-based healthcare services, is the first to combine cutting-edge fighter jet flight simulation technology with a patient's own anatomy scans, using medical imaging such as MRI, CT, to create a 360-degree room-scale virtual reality reconstruction of the patient's own anatomy and pathology.
"It is a great honor to take part in the Technion and Israel technology gathering" says Moty Avisar. "The team at Surgical Theater is proud of our mission to utilize our knowledge and experience in developing fighter jet simulators to better the patient's care and the patient's engagement in their own treatment process".
Surgical Theater's 360VR technology allows patients to walk inside their own anatomy alongside their surgeon. By putting the VR headset on the patient, the surgeon literally walks with the patient inside his / her own pathology, in between the tumor and the arteries, enhancing their understanding of their condition and treatment plan. The VR walk-through facilitates shared-decision making and can increase patient engagement and satisfaction.
"For the event, we invited a patient who went through a complex brain surgery to share her story of how 360VR impacted her recovery, along with a brain surgeon who will demonstrate how 360VR impacted their practice" adds Avisar.

About Israel Today Community Symposium
Temple Shalom created the Israel Today Community Symposium in 2016 to provide its congregants and the entire Dallas community, both Jews and non-Jews with a platform to learn how to be upstanders for the State of Israel. This includes Israel's relationship with, and benefit to, the United States, its breakthroughs in medicine, technology, and energy production, and ultimately the issues currently affecting the viability and survival of the State of Israel. In 2017 the Jewish and Non-Jewish communities joined together to present this symposium.
