SGI Offers Scali Software With Altix Cluster Solutions
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Silicon Graphics today announced that software solutions from Scali, a leader in high-performance clustering solutions, will be a featured option for the new SGI(R) Altix(R) 1350 and SGI(R) Altix(R) Hybrid Cluster. With Scali Manage(TM) software running on Altix clusters, customers can simplify their cluster management and monitoring, even those that exist in heterogeneous computing environments and run a wide range of applications.
"Many users implemented low-cost, white box clusters in past years, only to discover they had in fact purchased an administrative workload far in excess of what they thought they had signed up for," said Jeff Greenwald, senior director of server product management and marketing, Server and Platform Group, SGI. "With Scali software and the SGI Altix cluster solution, those days are history. As computing environments incorporate different platforms, applications and workloads, simplified cluster management is a necessary innovation that we're proud to offer in alliance with Scali."
Scali's cluster management software is designed to reduce the complexity of running a mix of leading platforms and interconnects within a Linux(R) cluster environment. In an independent study, Harvard Research Group recently selected Scali Manage as one of the best all-around Linux cluster management solutions available today.
"SGI's new solutions address some of the key shortcomings of traditional clusters, while introducing powerful new capabilities to users who need exceptional price/performance," said Bjorn Skare, president and CEO, Scali. "We are delighted to provide Scali Manage software as an important element in a comprehensive Altix cluster solution, and look forward to working closely with SGI to deliver simplified cluster management to users around the world."
Delivering the unparalleled price/performance and ease of use of SGI(R) Altix(R) for a broad range of cluster implementations, the new SGI(R) Altix(R) 1350 comes ready to install as a complete cluster solution which can be configured with industry-leading management, interconnect and storage technology, including Scali Manage. Altix 1350 provides a shortened time-to-solution, leveraging the best of both worlds -- large node capability plus cluster capacity - to efficiently handle a diverse, multi-job workload.
The Altix Hybrid Cluster is a single, cohesive computing solution that leverages the best of two distinct computing environments by adding superior Altix performance to traditional 32-bit clusters. Common tools and interfaces for managing and using the hybrid cluster create one solution with two architectures, delivering maximum ROI for heterogeneous workflows. The Altix Hybrid Cluster is ideal for customers whose application workload increasingly requires strong computing capability and global-shared memory to complement 32-bit cluster technology.
