Rock Steady Boxing serves both men and women of all ages and levels of ability.
Rock Steady Boxing Harrisburg for people with Parkinson's classes will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 2:15 p.m. at West Shore Academy of Martial Arts (WSAMA), 3548 Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011. The first class is free. Individuals can pay $10 per class or $60 for unlimited programs a month.
Classes are geared to individuals at all stages of Parkinson's disease. This unique exercise program can improve the quality of life, and in some cases, delay the symptoms of people living with PD by building up their strength, balance, flexibility and speed. They will work on specific skills to improve footwork, coordination, and strength.
"Our program is driven by a team of volunteers and certified Rock Steady Boxing trainers, including the owner of WSAMA, who are passionate about helping to improve the quality of life of those living with Parkinson's disease," stated Tammy Smith.
"We have always believed in the method," said Rock Steady Boxing, Inc. Executive Director Joyce Johnson. "When evidence began to emerge that our program had a very positive impact on the 'boxers', our mission became clear -- to share our knowledge and experience with all people with Parkinson's."
According to the Parkinson's Foundation, nearly one million will be living with PD in the U.S. by 2020. For people with Parkinson's disease exercise isn't only healthy, it's a vital component of maintaining balance, mobility and handling daily living activities.
