National Press Club looking for the best writing about aviation, aerospace, defense

WASHINGTON, March 21, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Press Club wants journalists who write about aviation, aerospace and defense, and encourages them to enter their best work from 2016 in the Club's annual journalism contest.

The Michael Dornheim award is presented in celebration of the career of the late Michael A. Dornheim, a longtime reporter and editor at Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine. The recipient must be a working journalist writing about aerospace, defense, the airline industry, or aerospace science and engineering.

The winner gets a $1,000 prize.

The Press Club, a national leader among journalism organizations, encourages those who write on such topics to enter the contest.

The deadline is April 1. Details on the different awards categories and how to enter the contest can be found by clicking here.  http://www.press.org/about/awards

Entrants are encouraged to enter online, but if you prefer, the Club will accept entries mailed in the traditional way as long as they are postmarked before the deadline.

No matter how you enter, the most important thing is to make sure you submit your best journalism. Members can enter for free and nonmembers pay $50 per entry.

The awards will be presented at an annual awards dinner at the National Press Club this summer.

The contest includes awards for political reporting, regional reporting on Washington, international coverage, consumer reporting and online journalism. It also includes a group of awards for areas as diverse as reporting on the welfare of animals, coverage of the journalism industry, newsletter journalism, problems facing the elderly and humor writing.

The number for the Press Club's Awards Contest phone line is 202-662-8744. Please send any questions by e-mail to wjlester@aol.com or jbooze@press.org.
