Minister Bibeau Sets Out On First Agricultural Tour
OTTAWA, March 8, 2019 /CNW/ - Canada's agriculture and agri-food system is an economic engine, spurring job creation and prosperity across the country. Each and every day, Canada's farmers and food processors work hard to put safe, high-quality food on our tables, while driving the economy and creating good, middle-class jobs, particularly in our rural communities. Our food industry accounts for seven per cent of our GDP, valued at over $114 billion, and creates 270,000 jobs, making it the nation's single largest employer.
Today, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced that she will embark on her first agricultural tour. Minister Bibeau will meet with farmers, processors and industry leaders, as well as participate in local agricultural events to highlight strategic federal agricultural investments and programs and how they will help to build an even stronger and more innovative sector for Canada.
The tour begins on March 11 in Vernon, British Columbia and ends on March 13 in Winnipeg, Manitoba with stops in Kelowna, B.C. and Calgary, Alberta.
