KONE one of the top leaders in climate change reporting
KONE Corporation, press release, November 5, 2015
KONE, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has been recognized as a world leader for corporate action on climate change, and has been awarded a position on the Climate Performance A List by CDP, the international not-for-profit that drives sustainable economies. KONE also received the best possible climate disclosure score of 100 in the CDP Nordic report 2015. There were only two Nordic companies out of 205 that reached the 100A score.
A high score is indicative of excellent data management, transparent communication and a deep understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company - from solutions to the company's own operations and across the entire supply chain.
CDP evaluates companies on their performance in mitigating climate change on a scale of A to E. 113 leading companies appear on the global A list, which has been produced at the request of 822 investors who represent more than a third of the world's invested capital. For the first time ever, KONE reached the A performance score this year. In 2014 and 2013, KONE achieved the A- score, which is also considered high performance.
KONE's result in the CDP reporting has improved steadily for six consecutive years. In addition, CDP included the company in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) for the fifth year running. CDLI highlights those companies providing transparency in their disclosure of climate-related information, and lists the top 10 percent of the companies included in the CDP Nordic report.
"We are extremely proud to have received such an admirable score, and honored to have made it to the A list in CDP reporting. This achievement reflects our uncompromising commitment to improving environmental excellence throughout our organization and across the entire value chain, and brings us another step closer to our aim of being the leader in sustainability in our industry," says Hanna Uusitalo, Environmental Director at KONE.
KONE's long-term environmental objectives are to continue to improve the eco-efficiency of its solutions, modernize existing elevators and escalators to make them more energy-efficient, and to further reduce the environmental impact of its operations. Between 2008 and 2014, for example, the company has succeeded in reducing its energy use carbon footprint, relative to orders, by 60%. In addition, in 2014 KONE was the first company to achieve an A-class energy efficiency classification for its volume elevator customer references according to the ISO 25745 Energy performance of lifts, escalators and moving walks standard.
CDP is an international, not-for-profit organization providing the only global system for companies and cities to measure, disclose, manage and share vital environmental information. CDP works with market forces, including 822 institutional investors with assets of USD 95 trillion, to motivate companies to disclose their impacts on the environment and natural resources and take action to reduce them.
Complete lists of CDP leaders along with the climate disclosures of all companies publicly taking part in CDP's climate change program this year are available on the CDP's website: https://www.cdp.net/en-US/Results/Pages/reports.aspx.
