Green Tech: Volkswagen To Roll Out Cheaper E-Golf Edition
(RTTNews) - Volkswagen is rolling out a lower-priced version of the fully-electric 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf, following a trend towards price cuts on all-electric vehicles.
The 2015 e-Golf Limited Edition will go on sale at participating dealerships with a starting price of $33,450, which is nearly $2,000 less than its SEL counterpart that debuted in November. It is also available at a monthly lease price of $229, plus applicable fees.
Without compromising performance, quality, or versatility, the e-Golf Limited Edition is built on the same sporty Modular Transverse Matrix platform as the rest of the Golf family.
Like the SEL trim, the e-Golf Limited Edition will feature a 24.2-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, standard DC fast charger system that allows up to 80% battery charge in 30 minutes, an 83-mile range and a host of standard features like navigation, keyless entry with push-button start, automatic climate control, an electrically heated windshield, rearview camera, and front and rear park distance control.
The e-Golf Limited Edition will differ from the current e-Golf in that it will feature 16-inch steel wheels in place of aluminum alloys, halogen instead of LED headlights, cloth in place of leatherette seating surfaces, and deletion of the heat-pump system.
Since its release in the U.S. in November 2014, the 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf has sold a reasonable 668 units so far. Let us wait and see if the e-Golf Limited Edition will be equally successful.
