City College Announces Centerplate as New On-Campus Dining Services Partner

NEW YORK, Sept. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The City College of New York announced today a new dining services agreement with hospitality provider Centerplate that will bring an expanded menu of healthy and locally sourced fresh foods prepared by culinary trained chefs to new and renovated dining facilities and restaurants across the entire campus.

"We're excited about our new relationship with Centerplate, as we seek to enhance the overall dining experience for our students and the entire campus community of nearly 20,000 people," said Executive Director Jason Wallace of the Auxiliary Enterprise Corporation (AEC), which oversees the campus-wide dining program. "This new partnership will significantly increase the array of multicultural and healthy options available, and it will generate a significant level of excitement and enthusiasm about eating on campus."

Centerplate is well-respected as a leader in delivering sustainable, integrated facilities management and food service operations. It assumed operations prior to the start of the fall semester, with current meal plans remaining intact and no interruptions in campus food and meal services.

CCNY dining services will retain many of the popular elements of the current programs while adding a number of new features – such as a new halal station, a new juice and smoothies concept, an expanded salad bar, personalized pizzas and flatbreads, a noodle spot and expanded faculty dining offerings. New local suppliers include Long Island City'sDallis Coffee, Brooklyn's own Aladdin Bread and Brooklyn Bagel, Plymouth Beef of the Bronx and Satur Farms, which will provide fresh produce from eastern Long Island.

"Dining is integral to students' success," said Centerplate Vice President John Erickson. "We look forward to helping students succeed and the broader City College community as a whole. Our team is thrilled to be working with such a renowned institution to construct a diverse culinary program that appeals to many different cultures and dietary preferences."

The agreement was finalized only after a comprehensive review process, with input from a select group of technical advisers and feedback from students, faculty and staff across campus. The inherent focus of the search was on improving the overall quality of the dining experience at City College. Centerplate also plans to hold a series of informational town halls in the coming weeks to answer questions and offer a sneak peek at what the future holds.

Centerplate expects to hire additional staff in the months ahead, including more culinary trained professionals, and any interested parties are encouraged to contact liaison Jerome Simon, at jsimon@ccny.cuny.edu.
