Arctic Slope Regional Corporation Fully Supports Nominee Rex W. Tillerson as Secretary of State
UTQIAĠVIK, Alaska, Dec. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Arctic Slope Regional Corporation ("ASRC") is pleased to announce its strong support for Rex W. Tillerson, President-elect Donald Trump's selection for secretary of state. Trump made the announcement early this morning in a statement. If confirmed, Tillerson will be the first oil executive to lead the State Department.
"Through his work with Exxon, Tillerson has proven his business expertise in dealing with issues in the Arctic, especially Alaska's Arctic," said Rex A. Rock Sr., ASRC president and CEO. "He brings a sense of familiarity with his understanding of our region's strategic importance, as well as the vital significance of the pan-Arctic. He's lead successful projects with our doorstep neighbors Russia and Canada, and has business experience with other Arctic nations as far away as Norway. I look forward to working with Secretary Tillerson and others in the new administration in the future."
"I'm pleased to see a nominee who has the ability to have true, meaningful and candid conversations about the Arctic," added Crawford Patkotak, ASRC board chairman. "The Arctic is a region for opportunity and for peace and Tillerson brings a clear understanding of this global view. We will be watching the nomination process closely."
Tillerson started his career with Exxon in the mid-70s as an engineer, working his way up the corporate ladder to become the company's board chair and chief executive officer in 2004. His confirmation process is expected to begin in late January.
